Welcome to Palate Theory's guide to healthy + happy eating coming at you through the blog series "Eat. Enjoy. Repeat." At the heart of the series is a focus on inclusion. Forget forbidden foods or forgoing dessert + alcohol for the rest of your life (or even for the rest of the week!). Palate Theory is all about gaining an appreciation for high-quality, flavorful food. It's combining your tastes + preferences with nutrition science to find a way forward that's both pleasurable and nutritious. It's making a commitment to eat good food, feel great about yourself, and enjoy the journey.
When do you tell me exactly what to eat?
After delving deep into nutrition research, taking courses in behavior change, working with hospital patients and private practice clients, I've honed my nutrition philosophy and strategy. Prescribing a specific meal plan can be a useful tool, but the key to long lasting healthy habits is learning to make healthy choices on your own (think "give a man a fish" versus "teach a man to fish"). In presenting my guide to healthy + happy eating, I'm teaching you to fish, and in doing so, offering you the benefit of flexibility. Whether you're swamped at work, traveling for pleasure, active with the kids, or simply craving something new, you won't have to give up on healthy eating due to a change of plans, a too-busy-to-cook schedule, or a jam-packed social calendar.
So, what's it all about?
Palate Theory's guide to healthy + happy eating is about educating, motivating, liberating, and empowering you! It's about highlighting the benefits of nutritious foods rather than trying to scare you into eating well. It's about becoming an informed eater without focusing so much on the numbers that you're doing mental math all day long. It's about utilizing tactics to help you eat better, even when you can't be mindful or present during a meal (hello kids, work, entertainment, life...!). It's about adapting and being flexible and forgiving when you're struggling to muster any form of willpower. It's about allowing food to play a joyful role in your life sans guilt, sans "cheat" days, sans "I'll start my diet tomorrow."
Sounds great... Now tell me the strategies already!
Strategy #1: patience. Kidding! But you will need a little patience as I'll begin discussing the first strategy next week (hint: it deals with consistency) and continue with one new strategy each of the following weeks. Adopt them one at a time or all at once with the goal of making these lifelong changes for a happier, healthier you. Sign up for Palate Theory's blog updates (in the side column) to make sure you don't miss out on any of the strategies! See you next week!
